Over the next few weeks, PS5 players in all regions will be able to join Discord calls directly from their console – no mobile app required!
At long last, direct Discord voice chat and calls are coming to Sony's console, and it's about time! Xbox has had the feature since September 2022, so we've been waiting on it for a while.
If you wanted to use Discord with your PS5 before today's update to the console, you'd have to go through a workaround using your phone, even after the PS5 Discord beta came to an end. But finally, full PS5 Discord integration is here! Today's firmware update from PlayStation includes the news that it's now possible to start or join a Discord voice chat directly from your PS5, as well as other changes, including the ability for child accounts on PS5 to link to third-party app accounts to use features like Spotify, Apple Music, and sharing gameplay via YouTube and Twitch.
The PS5 update also has some other tidbits in there, like fixing an issue with the Pulse Elite that was causing consoles to power off when the audio cable was plugged into the headphone jack. And of course, there are the usual and very generic system software performance and stability updates. We've posted the full patch notes for today's PS5 update below. In the meantime, here's how to join Discord on PS5 without using the mobile app.
How to join Discord on PS5
- Firstly, make sure your PS5 firmware is up to date
- Link your Discord and PlayStation Network accounts by heading to User Settings > Connections on either desktop, web, or mobile
- Select the PlayStation logo and follow the process to link your PSN and Discord account
- On your PS5 console, press the PlayStation button on your controller to open up the Control Center and navigate to the Game Base
- Pick the new 'Discord' option in the Game Base
- For calls in Discord server voice channels: select a server you’re in and a voice channel and hit join
- For Discord voice in a DM or Group DM: select 'Direct Calls' to open up a list of your DMs and Group DMs, organised by the last time the conversation was active, and press join
And it's that easy! Bear in mind this is a rollout of PS5 Discord integration rather than a simultaneous drop worldwide. It's coming to different regions "over the coming weeks" as the blog post announcement says. Once the rollout is done, it'll be live for everyone, so just keep checking for a PS5 firmware update in your region. The blog post also says it'll change its title to reflect when the PS5 Discord integration rollout is complete so you can check back in there as well.

Child accounts can now link and add third-party services and apps to their account for PlayStation Network to enjoy benefits and features that enhance their gameplay experience.
Younger players that use child accounts on PS5 can link accounts to use features like Discord voice chat, music streaming via Apple Music and Spotify, and broadcasting and sharing gameplay via YouTube and Twitch.
New parental controls are available for parents and guardians. These controls notify and allow them to manage their child's account links with third-party services and apps.
Availability may vary depending on age, parental control settings, and country/region.
You can now start or join a Discord voice chat directly from your PS5.
